16-17 November 2015 we held a conference in Sandö, Sweden, in collaboration with international partners. One of the main topics on the agenda was the pre-launch of the toolkit we have produced together. Watch our video from the conference here!
The 1325 MEDIA TOOLKIT has been developed by Operation 1325 in partnership with Women’s Empowerment Organization in Iraqi Kurdistan (WEO), Women Media and Development in Palestine (TAM) and Media Association for Peace in Lebanon (MAP). It is based on our joint experiences and lessons learned from years of working with advocacy and media strategies to increase women’s rights and the implementation of Resolution 1325 in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In this toolkit we share practical advice and inspiration for creative action by presenting successful examples found in our network and other actors’ work. It also includes checklists and guidelines for civil society organizations on how to improve communication skills and interaction with different media and journalists. It provides tools for media actors who want to contribute to and support the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. Our vision is to build bridges and meeting points between two polarised and divided sectors in order to unite in the struggle for more democratic and inclusive societies. The methods in this toolkit can be applied to other parts of the world and to other organizations’ work.
By strengthening the civil society’s communication skills and media outreach and supporting a more gender sensitive reporting, we can all be part of making a difference.
