During the fall, we will publish reports on the situation of women, peace and security in a number of countries. Here is our report on Lebanon with recommendations that we have developed together with our partner organization Sawa for Development Association.
Lebanon has the highest number of refugees per capita in the world and a majority of the refugees are women and children.
Although the country is more liberal and open than other countries in the region, female political participation is very low, with 4,7% of women in parliament and 10% in government.
Lebanon has a national action plan for women, peace and security, but local civil society lacks ownership and is not sufficiently integrated into its implementation.
Our Recommendations:
- Increase women’s participation in politics and peace work.
- Help protect women on the run in Lebanon.
- Support the work to increase local ownership of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
