This year the International Women’s Day will be celebrated on 5th of March and different schools and their students will have the opportunity to participate. Operation 1325 will together with 43 other organizations (“Åttonde mars nätverket”) be having a day full of interesting seminars, workshops, debates, concerts and other activities related to the theme “The right to my body”. This will take part at Fryshuset, Stockholm and the event will be aimed primarily for young people but of course, the public is also welcome.

This year’s theme is “The right to my body”, is to bring attention and problematize how the female body is sexualized and what kind for consequences this may have. This is important to Operation 1325. Women have an important role when it comes to peacebuilding and that´s why we must discuss how different attitudes of women reduce her ability to be seen as a strong individual. These attitudes and images of how a women should be and act, exist globally and that´s why the “Åttonde mars nätverket” has chosen to bring attention to this problem. If we want to change this, we must collaborate; which is exactly what this network is all about – collaboration. We are a large network with differences of knowledge, background and focus. What we all have in common is how gender based norms affect people negatively; especially women are affected by this. This is something we in “Åttonde mars nätverket” want to change and that takes teamwork.

During this event, Operation 1325 will lead a workshop called “Experience your rights using Nonviolent Communication” with exercises and role-play. We will also have a table with information about our organization and our work. The event is free of charge and it will take place at Fryshuset. The seminars will mainly be held in Swedish but some are in English.
