Time for the Nordic countries to act

SoME Gavobevis 2023

10 April 2014

Today, NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender, starts the publishing of a series of articles on Nordic gender equality cooperation. First out is an article about Operation 1325 in which our Project Manager Jenny Molin was interviewed about the Nordic project that Operation 1325, in cooperation with partners in Norway, Finland and Denmark, is working on.

The project, which is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and NIKK, aims to update the debate on the Nordic countries’ work on women, peace and security at the women’s rights conference Nordiskt Forum Malmö 2014 in June. In a seminar and a workshop question if the Nordic countries still are leading the way when it comes to working with resolution 1325 and how we pave the way for a more effective implementation in the future will be raised. In the interview Jenny Molin highlights the fact that the Nordic countries once were among the first to establish national action plans, but today much indicate that we are not as prominent as we want to believe. Therefore, says Jenny, it’s high time for the Nordic countries to roll up their sleeves and advance the work for more equal peace processes and operations.

The full interview can be read here and in a previous article on our website more information can be found on the Nordic project.
