RESOLUTION 1325 IN IRAQ – HOW CAN SWEDEN MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

In order to contribute to the implementation of Resolution 1325, we have, alongside our partner organizations in the MENA region, produced recommendations on how Sweden can contribute to the Women, Peace and Security agenda in different countries. Now the turn has come to Iraq and together with our local partner organization WEO we present the following recommendations.

Iraq has suffered decades of fighting which has led to the country’s women having inferior legal protection and representation. At the same time, they are exposed to sexual, physical and mental violence with limited opportunities to break this spiral.

Our Recommendations:

  • Guarantee women’s participation in peace processes and conflict resolution.
  • Strengthen the protection of women in internally displaced persons camps.
  • Guarantee women’s participation in justice institutions and strengthen women’s rights.
