Nicola Brassil

Nicola Brassil is a devoted human rights student with a desire to work for the realization of women's rights. After graduating from the University of Essex, UK, she spent one year in Kosovo working with issues related to gender and UNSCR 1325. During her internship for international organizations and local NGO:s, Nicola took part in advocacy and capacity-building projects. Her work was conducted on the topic of women and girls’ empowerment in a post-conflict environment. It includes proposals aimed at increasing women’s political participation and promotes awareness-raising initiatives to end gender-based violence.

“These experiences have been invaluable. In particular, my roles at EULEX Kosovo and UN Women have provided me with an insight into the current standing of women in peace and security efforts”.

During her time in Kosovo, Nicola had the chance to interview Ms. Mimoza Kusari-Lila, Kosovo’s first and only woman mayor to date. The attached article explores the experiences of a strong figure that exemplifies many characteristics of the new wave of determined women careerists in Kosovo.
