Operation 1325 to Launch New Tool for NAPs

SoME Gavobevis 2023

4 June 2013

What does a good NAP on UNSCR 1325 look like and how does the process of developing a NAP become inclusive and transparent? When engaging in the NAP process these are questions that need answering. That is why Operation 1325 is in the process of developing the NAP Navigator Tool to guide stake-holders in the process of developing a NAP by offering concrete examples and practical solutions for best practice.

Resolution 1325, which was adopted by the UN Security Council in 2000, was in many ways groundbreaking. Nevertheless, 13 years on little progress has been made when it comes to its implementation. To date there are 41 national action plans (NAP) on UNSCR 1325. The recurrent theme among them is a lack of clear objectives, activities, and indicators as well as allocated funding. Lessons learned from previous NAP processes are that the more inclusive and transparent the process is the more likely it is to result in a good document.

After years of experience of being involved in NAP processes Operation 1325 has identified strategies for best practice and has created tools for civil society to strengthen their capacity to be active in the NAP process. Operation 1325 offers a comprehensive training program in NAP development and strategies for an inclusive NAP process. In addition, we will be able to provide technical support throughout the NAP process to civil society organizations, government agencies, and task forces for NAP development.

The NAP Navigator Tool will be launched this fall. For more information contact Project Manager Emmicki Roos, responsible for Operation 1325’s work on national action plans.
