A group from Operation 1325 recently returned from Iraqi Kurdistan with our bags full of knowledge, and ideas of possible future partners. We received the warmest of welcomes from a line of non-governmental organisations, politicians, journalists as well as women’s- and human rights activists.

Even in the relative calm and pro-democratic Iraqi Kurdistan respect for human and women’s rights is scarse. Especially women in high positions in civil society or politics are often subject to smear campaigns and sometimes violent threats.

Many of those we met were deeply involved in developing and improving their society. Many were industrious, creative and persuasive women with lots of courage and their minds set on what is needed to make changes a reality.

Operation 1325 will continue forming our ideas for what the future can bring in terms of cooperation with organisations in Iraqi Kurdistan. We will keep you posted of any news.
