New cooperation with Albanian civil society and media

SoME Gavobevis 2023

22 April 2015

Operation 1325:s director Annika Schabbauer and Project Manager Jenny Molin are currently in Albania to meet the organization Association for Women with Social Problems (AWSP) and explore opportunities for a future cooperation. The aim is to increase awareness of Resolution 1325 among media networks, government actors and the general public in order to push for a more effective implementation in the country. The project also want to highlight and discuss media’s role in the work for women, peace and security and create an interactive meeting point with civil society organizations for this purpose.

Several countries in the region have developed a National Action Plans on Resolution 1325 but Albania is currently lagging behind. There is a lack of research and data on the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in the country. Media actors play an important role in raising awareness about human rights issues and create public debate. Collaboration with media could thus help increase the impact of AWSP’s advocacy work and enable the organization to reach a larger audience. By strengthening the linkages between AWSP and the local media network we hope a future project can contribute to stronger public debate and demands on the Albanian government to take action and increase its commitments under the resolution.
