Gender Equality in International Tribunals and Bodies

SoME Gavobevis 2023

30 September 2015

We live in an increasingly interconected world, where global and regional decisions impact conflict, cooperation, rights and duties. International tribunals and bodies sit at the middle of this powerful intersection; they decide issues of peace and security; define the scope of international protection of fundamental rights; and the punishment due to those responsible for crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. Women, however, are scarcerly represented in these institutions that shape our world and our lives. Increasing knowledge and visibility of the problem is an important first step to adress inequality and change the picture. GQUAL is a global campaign that seeks to promote gender parity in the international representation.

GQUAL recognizes that women’s participation in international bodies matters for equality, legitimacy, the impact and outcome, democracy, justice and for the rule of law. By involving a broad range of actors in the strategy, including states, civil society, and the international bodies themselves, GQUAL has the potential to make significant steps in advancing gender equality.

The GQUAL Declaration establishes the main strategies and objectives of the campaign and asks individuals to endorse and take action by signing the declaration and share the campaign – even You can be a part of promoting a better future!
