Ayla Akat Ata is a lawyer and a former parliamentarian and represented BDP, Peace and Democracy Party, in Turkey. She is one of the spokespersons for the organization KJA, Women’s free congress. Ayla Akat has also participated in Women’s Platform of Migration in Diyarbakir and she served as defense lawyer for Abdullah Öcalan, the former leader of PKK, Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
Ayla Akat has mediated between communities, the government and insurgency groups, in cases of kidnappings. In October 2016, she participated in the Mediation Conference that Operation 1325 organized in cooperation with the Swedish Institute in Alexandria.
